What’s the role?
Social performance (SP) describes how we manage the impacts of our business on the communities and societies in which we operate. How well we manage these impacts affects the wellbeing of our neighbours, and ultimately of our business. The overall objective is to create a positive presence and legacy in our operational areas, and so gain community acceptance for our business objectives. The purpose of the Social Performance (SP) Centre Of Excellence (CoE) is to inspire people and unlock leadership such that all countries within a given region are able to appropriately identify and manage social risks, impacts and opportunities in support of business outcomes and social license to operate.
Centre of Excellence (CoE) teams are set up in Shell to provide high levels of professional competence and subject matter expertise in key disciplines, e.g. SP. The global SP CoE team reports up to the VP Social Performance and sits in multiple regions around the world.
Support the Regional SP Manager Americas & USA with the following SP and Social Investment (SI) activities:
Competence development of the business and regional SP (including SI) skill pool, including tailoring and delivery of formal training
SP support to colleagues from the Business, broader External Relations (ER) and other functions
Support development and roll out of SP and SI programmes, guidance, information and procedures stemming from the SP CoE
SP support for country / asset / project SP and SI activities, where in-country support is needed
Provide assurance as per Shell’s SP Manual and other relevant aspects of the Health, Safety, Security, Environment & Social Performance Control Framework, including supporting annual assurance activities
Support SP integration in Country Reputation planning
Work with SP Communications to gather and share good practices, stories, etc from across the region
Support improvement of SP networks in the Americas, with a focus on the US.
Participate in Networks
Role may be performed at a range of levels: global, regional, country, project or asset however it has a cross-business scope (Upstream, Downstream, Integrated Gas /New Energies/ New Business Development) with a focus on USA
Work in partnership with members of the global SP CoE, in-country SP practitioners, other Functions (e.g. Government Relations, Safety & Environment, Contracting & Procurement) and the business
Some travel to project and asset sites to provide support, assurance etc as needed
Ability to work across cultures, diverse backgrounds and virtual / in-country teams
Minimum of six (6) years’ experience with SP delivery, ideally at the asset/project level and supporting business decision making.
Experience with social impact management, including development and/or implementation of impact mitigations in Project execution and/or Operational activities.
Demonstrates skill in delivering SP and firmly on the path to reaching the internal Shell accreditation of Shell Authorised SP Person (ASP).
Solid business partnering, stakeholder relations, project/risk management and influencing skills.
Strong interpersonal and communications skills, and effective listening skills.
Proven track record as a self-starter, willingness to assume management of complex projects, pay attention to detail and set priorities to meet deadlines.
